Card Trick

Oh my I haven't blogged since forever.

My classes started this weeks and first day of my math class the professor taught us a card trick.  I thought it was a cool card trick, maybe it's because I don't know any other card tricks... This card trick involves 2 people (you probably could make it seem like only 1 person though maybe) and cool math.
So lets call the people person 1, person 2, and some random person you're showing the trick to(abbreviated srpysttt).  It's called Fitch Cheney's five card trick.  So person 1 walk out of the room and srpyttt picks 5 cards from a deck of cards gives the 5 cards to person 2. Person 2 puts 1 card face down and 4 cards face up.  Person 1 comes in and guesses the face down card.
Lets say the cards srpysttt takes are 2d, 6s, Jc, 8h, and 2c.  There will always be 2 cards of the same suit, person 2 will hide the "highest card" of that suit which would be 2c(no I'm not crazy 2c > Jc).  The "high card" is determined by looking at which card is 6 or less away from the low card so 2c is 4 away from Jc (Qc,Kc,Ac,2c).  It'd be easier to explain if i drew it but oh well.
Now you know which card to hide you have to secretly tell person 1 what the hidden card is.  Isn't this exciting?  So you have to add up the values of the face up cards so 2 + 6+ 11 + 8 = 27 then mod 4(divide by 4 and only look at the remainer) so 3 if you get 0 pretend it's a 4. So that means person2 puts the card with the same suit in the 3rd position.  Now you just need to arrange the other 3 cards to tell person 1 how far away the hidden card is from the card in position 3.
The order of the cards corresponding to a number is
low medium high = 1
L H M = 2
M L H = 3
M H L = 4
H L M = 5
H M L = 6
have to memorize that too bad.
The order of highness(yes I like making up words)  is A-Kd < A-Kc < A-Kh < A-Ks
The remaining 3 cards are 2d, 6s, and 8h.  Since 2c is 4 away from Jc arrange them in M H L which would be 8h, 6s, 2d and since Jc has to be in spot 3 the final ordering of the cards would be 8h, 6s, Jc, 2d and 2c face down.  Using math person 1 figures out what the face down card and everyone is amazed... or calls you a witch and burns you at the stake but we're not in 17th century so probably not.
